SUMMARY Evaluation of existing standards of measurement of ambient dose rate; and of sampling, sample preparation and measurement for estimating ra-dioactivity levels in air: AIRDOS The AIRDOS project started in April 2004 and was executed over two years. It was funded by the Radiation Protection Unit in the Directorate General for Transport and En-ergy of the European Commission. The main objectives of the AIRDOS project were: • to make an inventory of the current national monitoring systems for gamma dose rate measurements and aerosol monitoring; • to evaluate this information; • to propose international recommendations. In order to reach these objectives two working group meetings and a workshop were organised. The results of the surveys and of the workshops have been compiled in a report that is in press.
